just got this thing and so far its shooting actually relatively far for the crappy battery i was using in the cold it feels wonderful. I would compare the feeling of it to a KWA and the metal body is AWESOME. it does make a high pitch whine when i shoot it though so i'm not sure if that can be fixed perhaps some motor adjustment will help? but so far its looking good and i don't wanna jump the gun as this being an order that went right for me!

wooo hooo i spoke to soon! something could go wrong! Its broken already! It now doesn't shoot, nothing, not the slightest movement in the gearbox! well this is bad experience with EVERY single order i've ever gotten for airsoft. damn and im now back to my ak

Eli, regarding your first concern: Sometimes it's the motor that is just loud, other times it's the motor height that needs adjusting. It's hard to figure it out until you do some tuning.

If it's true that absolutely nothing is moving, then it's an electrical issue. Don't take anything apart if you plan to send it back. Personally I hate sending things back, and I just deal with it, but if you want me to check it quick on Saturday morning, it will be easier for me if it's in one piece and exactly how it is now.
In the meanwhile the first place to check is the fuse. Second place is the battery. And third, see if any connectors are loose. Tamiya plugs are crap and sometimes the wires fall out of them. It's also possible that one of the motor clips fell off however unlikely. I suspected there might be issues with the sportline version because it is so cheap.

yeah.. well the tamiya plug is broken on the circular end but it just came unglued and I just hold it in when i put the battery on it. and I've tried 2 different batteries and nothing. Not to mention the fuse box in this particular gun is a pain to get into and im still working on it... but yeah ill keep it just the way it is till saturday

problem identified. It looks like the wire below the fuse came basically broken and was only shooting when it was touching. I noticed this because when i tugged lightly on the rubber that encased the wire it would give a little bit. I cut through it with a razor blade and ill probably have to solder it. but if not mike do you have soldering equipment as its possible all ive got is plumbing solder

ok so tonight i soldered the broken wire and plugged in the battery with anticipation and it shot once on single and then once again nothing... I don't really have a clue what it is this time but its electrical...again.... i know that it cant be that specific section of the wire because it is soldered still. So yeah mike ill bring it and ill let you take it home after tomorrow with the g&g m4 to find out whats the matter with it. So im gonna charge my ak battery and home it can last the whole time, but i might actually have to resort to using your beta since this is looking like quite a bad deal for me airsoft gun wise. Damn i was really hoping to have that thing usable by tomorrow too!

Your gun is ready to go and works fine now. The tamiya plug was slightly broken, one of the wires was falling out because the tabs were pressed inward and one was half broken off. I flared the tabs out and it locked in fine and should continue to work as long as you don't pull on the wires very hard.
As for the fuse area, there was nothing wrong with it as far as I could see. When you get the rest of your parts and want me to put on the metal body, I'll probably resolder the joint again, just to clean things up a bit and make sure it doesn't pop off.

It's also possible that one of the motor clips fell off however unlikely.
That was the main reason it wasn't firing because one of them fell off. I crimped it a little tighter so it won't fall off and reconnected it. The reason it was firing one shot was because it was still partially touching the motor with a corner of the clip even though it was disconnected. So every now and then it would touch the motor tab.
Took me all of about 2 minutes to have it ready again. I also hear the motor screeching slightly. Adjusting the motor height definitely doesn't help...It might be fixed by some internal tuning, but I wouldn't worry about it. It's most likely just the motor.

While I have it, would you like me to look in the gearbox and see if there's anything that you'll need to upgrade? like a plastic spring guide or some other way to cut costs on the sportline version.

Well your gun is a pain to take apart because it fits so tightly together, mainly the delta ring and the buffer tube, but the gearbox was also pretty snug in the body. However I think it will get a little easier over time.

So here's what I found out. Here is a list of everything that differs from the proline model:
gearbox
gears
bushings
cylinder head
cylinder
spring guide
spring
motor

I'm not sure why some of it is different. But here's a short run through. The gearbox is not black, but has the same markings. It has those tiny reinforcement braces, but basically it's a typical chinese gearbox. It's just not finished with black paint to hide all the surface defects. The gears look like the AIM torque up gears instead of the speed gears. You get 8mm steel bushings instead of bearings, no big deal. A plastic cylinder head instead of the metal, dual o-ring cylinder. A brass cylinder instead of a 'whatever' silver cylinder. A very strange spring guide, it is metal, but has no bearings and it's about 2/3 the size of a normal one. The spring is tapered, that's good. The is the green one like I expected, not really a torque model.

Things that jumped out at me right away were the cylinder which wobbles inside the gearbox housing. Never seen that before, but it can't be good. It looks like it's due to the gearbox casting, but a new cylinder might help that. The second thing is the air nozzle which also has some slight casting issues on the tip. It provides a good seal, but I'll see if I can smooth out some of the defects later. I didn't actually count the gear teeth to see if it's a torque up set, but if the motor's having trouble pulling an m110 or m100 spring on even a standard set of gears... then it sucks. The rof with an 8.4 is really pretty slow.
Also the wire from the tamiya plug may come out every once in a while but as long as you push on the wires instead of the plug when your connecting the battery it's perfectly fine.

Overall, I don't reallly like to see all these differences between the proline and sportline, it makes me wonder what other shortcuts they took with materials ect. Pretty much the only internals that are the same as the proline are the air nozzle, tappet plate, piston, piston head. I'm a little skeptical of the gearbox mainly because of the loose cylinder. What recommend for this gun is to get the barrel and motor only. You may consider buying a cylinder as well. I wouldn't get a new spring because it's a v2 gearbox for one, second because I'm not sure how solid the gearbox is and third, it's already shooting 390-395 fps, I chronoed it for you. If the gearbox breaks in a few years, get a new one and then add an m120 spring with it.
So comparing with a kwa, the internals have quite a ways to go. Performance-wise, we'll just see how things work out, it does have nice compression.

great.... but tbh its to be expected ill probably get a new cylinder and barrel. I decided to also put some money into my ak to see if i can get it working a little better and maybe use this gun as a backup

ok mike looking back on what you said here if you see and i hope you do when you get on. im thinking i won't get a tightbore right now and ill hold on the flashlight and save those for later buys in the summer as i can put in a tightbore into an m4 easily. I would rather buy the stuff that you think needs replacing such as a new cylinder, motor, etc and i noticed you said not to get a spring guide here? Should i get this one: http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=2245 and as for a motor how about this: http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=31_50&products_id=3906 or the alternative: http://www.airsoftgi.com/product....d=3897. Also i would appreciate any and all suggestions for a cylinder on asgi as their selection is very few right now and idk what is best in your opinion.

Yeah the first 2 links are perfect. Don't bother with a g&g motor though, the amp one is good. Skip the cylinder I guess if you order from asgi.

alright so mike, do you think the chinese website has v2 gearboxes as i saw a few reviews saying that theirs broke on the aimtop. also whats the difference between 6mm and 8mm bearings on a gearbox and im fine with ordering from evike they also have all the parts i need but no 10% off

A spare what?

No you don't need it. The cylinder head that comes with it fine, you don't have a heavy enough spring that you need a metal one and metal ones make the gearbox break earlier anyway.

Quote (fuzzywuzzy)
lright so mike, do you think the chinese website has v2 gearboxes

Yeah, they pretty much sell only spare jg boxes, which is more or less what comes in the proline model. Then again that's still better than what is in the sportline. The more I'm thinking about it, I'm not at all impressed by the sportline version sad Then again it was basically the cost of an entry level gun, so if you use it as a platform to upgrade you already got the free metal body

The difference between sizes is just the hole that you use to install bushings or bearings. If you're using lighter springs, around 120, 130, sometimes a little higher, a 6mm BUSHING will be alright. Typically you never want to install smaller bearings because they undergo some pretty high stresses for such a small size. Here's what I do. If I want bearings I'll get 8-9mm bearings. If I want bushings any size is fine for a normal set up.. 8mm+ bushing take a lot of the stresses out of a very high fps. For your project it probably won't matter if you stick to bushings.

he has a spare cylinder. but i decided ill hold off on the new gearbox for now atleast. When it breaks, if it breaks and i've seen on youtube one has then ill buy a new one and hopefully by then your back up here. And ill get a new spring guide, motor, and systema hopup for the ak as well as the smart charger and some small items.

so mike i decided now that i should stop sending you endless pm's about this darn project... if only you had texting!... so ill just write on here. From what ive seen g&p gearboxes are pretty damn good and that one is only 10 dollars more and you get all of the guts of the gearbox already with it so all i would need to buy would be a motor from the china cite. heres a link to one the places i saw g&p discussed in a good way http://www.evike.com/index.p....112833. ill probably edit this when i find out some more info.
