Day 1:
hey everyone. as you may know i recently decided to start a new gun build that is a AEG converted to high pressure air. i decided to document it, so here it goes...
i went out on craigslist and bought an old JG m4 s-system. it was in terrible condition, the receivers were all broken, the gearbox didn't work, and the top RIS was superglued poorly to the upper receiver. the front sight was broken, spinning around the barrel. Unfortunately i do not have any pictures of it at that stage.
I then got some spare parts I had lying around in my basement, disassembled the entire gun, and rebuilt the externals as well as the gearbox shell to factory condition. It was then completely solid, with no wobble anywhere with a brand new plastic body, and no super glue.

Currently I am awaiting the specifications of solenoid valves and information about the metals that I will use in this build, so I decided to continue working on improving the external appearance. Using Gimp, I tested different painting options for a gold/black two tone paint job that I will use. I am planning to use Krylon gold metallic paint as well as their triple thick clear coat for protection and additional gloss. A rough idea to see what options I have is below:
Option 1:

And option 2:

I seem to like the look of option two better, but am not yet decided. Later today or tomorrow I will go out to buy some paint and prep the surfaces for painting.Added (2011-06-30, 5:48 PM)

Day 2:
Today, after rebuilding my m16, I bought the paint, and decided on option 2. I disassembled the gun and prepped the surfaces for painting.

I then went out and bought the paint. Krylon gold and black, as well as the clear coat. The black will be used for the upper receiver, as well as a silencer later on.

So far I have the first coat done. I also am making plans to order metal and build the electric circuitry soon.

day 3:
I finally got home from vacation and decided to further document this.
a shipment of parts from airsoft GI arrived:
$35 a Madbull Black Python FSG1 length tbb
$12 a Systema Area 1000 type 0 teflon coated cylinder
a shipment also arrived from onlinemetals:
$5 aluminum bar
$5 nylon bar
I built a barrel extension to fit the fsg1 length tbb, and finished painting and assembling everything. later this week or next week i will be seeing to machining the metal and nylon parts.

since i bought the old s system body for $70, the current running price for this project is $127.

Day 4:
The hpa conversion cylinder parts are almost done. The parts completed are:
The piston,
The cylinder head,
The spring guide

The things that need to be done:
The rear plug (I can only do when I order the connector to go in the back, so I have the diameter of the hole)
Some minor touch ups (I purposely lathed the oring grooves slightly bigger, just incase the drawings were off. For it to slide freely I need to turn them down a little bit).
The next step in this process is to order the valve, which is currently giving me trouble. The valve I need is only sold by a certain company in poland, and they dont ship to the U.S. I am still looking for a similar valve with the right specifications that can ship to me.
What still needs to be done/ordered:
Electronic circuit
Order lipo battery
Order paintball hpa tanks
Order paintball hpa tank hose adaptor
Order 800psi rated hose and quick fit connecters
Order 800psi safe rated pressure regulator to step it down to a variable range up to 200-250psi
Hook everything up, and if the solenoid is small enough mill a slot in the gearbox shell to put it in
Find a place to mount the lipo
Modify the hpa tank into the retractable stock
Get more inner barrels and hopups so I can have a quick change barrel length set up
Do fps and rps testings
