| Hi everyone, I'm Shane. I love airsoft, and I own two spring M&P 40's from performance hobbies (one for the spare mag, mag=$35, gun=$45, might as well get an extra) and one AGM VSR10 MP001. I love airsoft and I'm glad I found an airsofting group around Rochester. I am 14, but if I speak for myself, I'm pretty good at airsoft. I also am reviewing most of my stuff at http://www.youtube.com/user/Saberking14?feature=mhum. I am looking to be a reviewer for an airsoft company, but I am yet to be one unfortunatly. Please check me out/subscribe. I am looking to get a job soon so I will be getting a great AEG after I accumulate some cash. Any ideas of what I should get?

Yea, my friend recently, well, just a week ago, purchased an echo1 m4 from performance hobbies, and it's the s***! I was looking into things more in the way of light machine guns or sub machine guns. Yea, I know, complete opposites, but I like em both. If I do get an m4 though, I'll definitely check out the KWC'S version!

| welcome. For your first gun, first pick what style gun you want to use, m4, ak ect. before you can decide what brand. Make sure it's a comfortable length and feel. Consider how much money you have to spend as well. Keep in mind you'll also want a smart charger and a new battery (even if the gun already comes with it). An elite battery from cheapbatterypacks.com is a very good idea. And you'll want new high grade bbs, not crosman of course. Figure about $55 for the battery/charger and maybe $30 for 15,000 bbs. That's already $85. Then figure out what's left is for the gun. A high end gun will run $250-$300+. An 'entry' gun can cost from $100-200. There's plenty of good guns out there. In a lot of situations, many guns perform very similar regardless of looks. So for your first gun, just pretend all guns are the same except for the style :P If you're deciding between several styles, I can list pros and cons for those to help you decide what style gun your comfortable using. Once you pick a style of gun that you want and a price range, I can list some good options for you from different online stores with pros and cons for each of them. Also when you finalize your decision, I can recommend a good battery configuration to get as well. For now, feel free to try out some games. Using the agm vsr may work fine especially as winter is coming soon. It will probably be about the range of a standard aeg since bolt action rifles tend to perform the same as an aeg to start out with unless you have them upgraded. If you do decide you're interested in trying an aeg, the club offers a rental for the day, which covers all the material costs: aeg, bbs, magazine, battery, probably a gas pistol if you need it for a pistol game ect. There's a lot of different models and brands offered as well.

Also, that's cool that I can rent guns too, that would be awesome. I guess for style, it would be 'compact' or medium sided guns, like around mp5 sized, and accurate with a fairly good rpm and fps. I'm not really sure that it's a style, but that's the type that I like. Also, how would you rate these stores. | Shane, mp5 is a style yes. And there's many guns that are around that size. Just go on airsoftgi and choose a brand that makes a variety of models like JG or Echo1. Then go through them and find some models that look cool to you. Write those down, then just check out the lengths if it's listed and find something say between 600mm and 700mm. Keep in mind, some guns have a folding stock to reduce the length. As for accurate rpm and fps, that depends by the brand you buy which you can figure out after you decide which style Most guns come stock now with a decently high or high fps. And rpm will improve with a better battery. I've only bought from 2 of those sites: Airsoftgi - Only ever had great service, they really want happy customers Evike - had very good experiences and a somewhat bad experience. The bad was an order a few years ago and was fixed for the most part, though the missing pieces resulted in 2 stripped screws which I still have problems with. As of late, Evike has really been trying to make sure they're customers are satisfied.

I also used .2's and .25's in that video (I THINK you're talking about my sniper one) Anyways, now I use .2's and I'm thinking of going to just TSD .25's. Also, IK to get a new battery as you said before, but if my battery runs out in the middle of battle, it doesn't hurt my gun to use a 'bad' battery, right?

| No it definitely doesn't hurt your gun to use a 'bad' battery. The battery that comes with your gun will probably be 8.4v 1100-1500mah, which may last about 2000 shots and give your gun a rof around 10. The only problem is that it might just stop holding it's charge, ie. you charge it the night before and then it has no charge the next day. That doesn't necessarily mean it's defective, it just means that it's bad quality in the first place. I've gotten both good and bad batteries that came with my guns. By getting a 9.6v battery you'll probably increase your rof to around 14 per second which can also help keep your gears from locking up. And if you get a 2000mah battery you may get around 4000+ bbs which is plenty for a full day or more of airsoft. Not to mention, batteries made by 'Elite' are probably the best nimh packs for a pretty low price.

| Ok, thanks Mike! I didn't think it wouldn't do anything bad. Well, so far on my search for an mp5, I found one good one on airsoftgi. http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=7081 http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=7082 I think I would get the MP5A4 with the nonfoldable stock and handgrip, which is more classic.. The MP5A5 has a rail system on the bottom and also has a retractable stock. They both have the same fps and rof, they probably both have the same gearbox. At about 310 fps (hopefully with .2's or .25's) that would be accurate at about 100 feet, correct? And btw, you said you have an mp5k, which is basically what I want maybe even more than a normal mp5. It's basically a war between those 2. Where did you get yours? Oh yea, also on one of my reviews, I review my mask made by JT airsoft and it said it can handle up to 450fps before breaking. Can you think of a better mask to purchase by any chance? Best wishes, Shane

| Ahh, okay I didn't understand you already picked out the mp5 for what style you wanted. I thought you meant a gun around that size. Here's a few major pros and cons of 3 mp5 versions that you probably aren't aware of and may help you determine which one you want mp5a4 Pros: large battery space in the full stock a lot of brand choices for this model mp5a5 Pros: a lot of brand choices for this model Cons: very small battery space, meant for an 8.4v 1100mah pack. mp5k Pros: V3 gearbox Cons: Only 2 versions made, Tokyo Marui and Galaxy (rebranded by Echo1) Very small barrel, 110mm Tiny battery space, uses stick batteries. Can only fit 1100mah 8.4v stick unless you modify it Galaxy stock battery isn't good quality and has a hard time powering the gun, very slow rof. Larger aegs have an easier time performing better And here's some cons to having an airsoft mp5 in general: *not easy to take apart, takes a lot of work just to replace any internal (ICS does have a quick takedown version) *barrel is one of the shortest 229mm *version 2 gearbox (possibly negative since they tend to break the most, not really something to worry about unless you're upgrading) I'm mostly listing cons just in case there's something that severely bothers you. Airsoftgi and most reputable airsoft retailers list fps using 0.2g bbs unless stated otherwise. As for the the g&g mp5 you can assume it will shoot about 330-350 on 0.2g bbs. So that's about 300-310 with 0.25g bbs. As for accuracy, most stock aegs should be able to get to about 120ft. I'd estimate the g&g to be about 120-150ft stock performance with good bbs. If you know how much you want to spend let me know, and I'll list a few different brands with pros/cons. As for my mp5k, I got it from a wholesaler in a bulk order a few years ago. It was the galaxy version which at the time was quite impressive for the price. Still I wouldn't recommend it as a first/primary aeg. I'm not sure where they're in stock now, but Evike does have it on preorder. It's listed under 'matrix' but is actually the galaxy. http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_44_211&products_id=27724 As for masks, I don't much deal with them since I can't keep anything with a full seal from fogging. I just use shooting glasses with a narrow profile and as close of a seal as possible. Whatever you get, make sure they are ansi z87.1 rated and they'll be fine. If you do use shooting glasses make sure to get an additional face/mouth cover and a hat. Demon might have a little more input if you're looking for full seal goggles. I'm not sure how JT rates their mask at 450fps, unless they give you a projectile weight as well. Since a 0.2g bb at 450fps puts out far less energy than a 0.4g at 450fps bb. Regardless, if it's meant for paintball, then it will work for airsoft. If you can keep it from fogging, by all means stick with the mask. It might be hard look down the sights for some gun models.

| OK, so the mp5 wasn't for sure my 100% choice, but those are some great things to look at. It looks as if it may not be the best gun that transformed into airsoft, but thanks for the great extensive detail in the description! I was looking for a bullpup rifle, but unfortunatly, I couldn't find one, but I wasn't surprised. I guess since that I don't have a primary AEG, maybe I should go to some of the larger weapons, like m4/g4/saw sized ones. I don't want an ak, I know that. Are there any good m4's out there with suppressors that don't bend down. I've always wanted something like that, but most airsoft guns with suppressors usually end up with broken barrels. My friend has an Echo 1 m4 which is amazingly accurate. Well, since you seem to know some things about airsoft, what would you recommend for a primary AEG. I guess any large length would be great. Anyways, my airsoft mask barely ever fogs up unless I'm in fog, lol, and after a little bit of usage, I can, with a little struggle, look through my scope. I guess since I'll be getting a job soon, with the gun price alone, I'll spend about $400 at the higher end, but if there's something amazing, I'll take a look at any price thats under $1000. So what I mean by that is, thats what I'll pay, not including the scope/sights, grips, batteries, etc. And for a fun fact, I was working about 4 hours a day for about 20 days this summer and I earned about $500 and spent about $400 of it in airsoft, lol. Most of it was my gear and stuff. I know I just went from 700mm to probably 1000mm, but it sounds like I should. So, I think what I would say is, I'm looking for a large gun and I am willing to spend up to even as much as $400. I want something that can go a decent range, but the rof doesn't have to be the most amazing in the world. Thanks for reading, and be back soon, Shane

| A common mistake for beginners is to assume a specialized role without quite grasping the actual experience. For example a sniper is not the ultimate point click weapon. And a large support gun gets quite heavy and unwieldy after hours of playing due to it's length and usually full metal construction. The large reservoir of ammo also adds to the weight. These options should only be considered only after buying your primary field gun. Trust me, you won't regret it. My recommendation is to begin with a standard gun that is easy to handle with relatively common parts, something not too complicated to take apart for ease of maintenance in the future. I'd look at, in this order: Ak, M4, and maybe an mp5 or g36 for your first gun. These are all pretty common and can find parts for them. The reason I listed an ak first is because it's extremely easy to take apart and maintain. It doesn't have to be a full size ak either. Ak betas are actually one of my favorite choices for beginners because they aren't very long, but they have a full stock for a large size battery and the barrel really isn't that short either. Also has a 600 round mag, which is always nice when you're starting out. M4s have the most readily available parts, and the take down isn't that bad, but can get annoying sometimes. Mp5 and G36 models have less options for parts, but there are parts out there. Take down is harder as well. As for bullpups if you want to go that route, there are 3 options that come to mind: Famas, L85, and Aug. Why do you want a suppressor? They have no function in airsoft other than to allow for a barrel extension. If you really want one for some reason or other, you can just buy one separately and screw it onto the end of your barrel in lieu of the flash hider.
